A Better Alternative to Star Wars Episode 7
22 Oct 2018The new Star Wars trilogy is the big bad. I write good, make story more better for true fans. This me-sa best attempt. As of yet, still WIP.
Rough Outline
After the destruction of the Death Star the Empire was without it’s supreme leader. Palpatine had no care for his empire to survive without him so he set up no legitimate line of succession. By chain of command the next most powerful men of the military sector are the Grand Admirals, of the civilian sector the Regional Chancellors.
One of the Grand Admirals with a fleet near the destruction of the Death Star surrendered to the New Republic and started working for them. Some others set up military junta’s with themselves as the head and began levying taxes in the frontier worlds and defending their territory from the New Republic. There is continued fighting on some fronts between the New Republic and the Empire Remnants. Some Imperial Flotilla’s formed an uneasy truce with the New Republic.
A decade or so passes and the New Republic has cemented itself as the major power in the Core Worlds. They integrated with the existing civilian structure but removed most of the top administrative heads. The most major difference is that the New Republic’s command post is on Bespin (or hoth maybe or Tattoine maybe). This works well for most members of the Core Worlds except for one. The people of Coruscant are left destitute after losing control over their almost singular export for the last millenium: bureaucracy. Coruscant is a world with no arable land, no natural resources, no great factories, and billions upon billions of people. A quarter of it’s working population was put out of a job after the New Republic stole the government from them. The rest lost their source of income in supporting the bureaucrats.
Introduce our main character, Rey, a young 20-something Coruscanti. She is the daughter of a once wealthy bureaucrat who turned to drink and drugs after he lost his job. Now parent-less and alone Rey scrounges discarded foodstuffs and queues up in New Republic bread lines. Until one day she is assaulted by muggers and zaps them with an anger-fueled burst of force-lightning. She spends her time training her powers and using her weak control over force-lightning to protect herself and steal food from the New Republic goons (bread distributors). He doesn’t recognize her abilities as those of the late Jedi because force-lightning was always of the dark side and thus not widely popularized. Rey thinks herself a new kind of super-powered human on the rare occasions she is self-reflective.
Then comes the most important galaxy-changing event since the death of the Emperor: an Imperial Fleet consisting of at least 3 Grand Admirals and their flotillas warps directly in to Coruscant air space and lays waste to the Republic Cruisers in the skies. The Fleet quickly forms a strong foothold in the system. They launch a ground invasion on Coruscant and to their delight and mild surprise the Coruscanti greet them with open arms. This is what they’ve been waiting for, this is what they missed for so long. Finally, Coruscant will once again be the center of a galactic empire as it so rightfully deserves.
The First Order foothold stays strong for a while but things quickly take a turn for the worse when a skilled Jedi begins leading the New Republic Army.
Ben Solo differs from his JJ history starting from when Luke had misgivings about training him. Luke never tried to kill Ben. Even though the Jedi Master had some serious concerns about dark side callings in his best student he never thought it necessary to kill him. Luke decided to go on more missions away from the home worlds, abandoning his students, subconsciously fulfilling his desire to get away from Ben. The Solo child took up Luke’s mantle as Jedi Master and trained his less-skilled fellow disciples while Luke was away.
By the start of ep VII Luke has been gone for more than a year. The republic heard rumors of
The First Order just don’t have the ability to contest with a Jedi. They attempt to employ the anti-jedi tech the Emperor left behind. They still have a small contingent of Royal Guard reserved for dire need, but fear playing their hand too early. This leads to an interesting war strategy for both sides. The Sons know they can win almost any battle Luke isn’t involved in and so their goal is to always fight where he isn’t, but they also can’t allow republic troops to freely pass through their defenses so they must engage and delay Luke where necessary.
The Empire has one hope in the long run, acquiring a Jedi of their own. There are precious few students of Luke scattered throughout the New Republic. Yet they are all hidden and unknown to every republic citizen bar Luke himself. They hope that one of these students resides on Coruscant.
