Melancholia

Melancholia is shot very well, but the story is pretty boring. There’s not a lot of it. In fact there’s so little to it that as I sit here months later having thought I totally forgot about this movie, I can remember the entire plot. A woman is upset with her life, with her fiancé, with her mother, with everybody. Her sister’s husband is rich. She’s having a fantastic wedding at a secluded castle with many people. But she can’t get over her melancholy. She’s so depressed in fact that she sleeps with a near-stranger out on the golf course on her wedding night. This of course upsets her fiancé greatly and their marriage is never consummated. The woman spends the next few months of her life in a very depressive state being taken care of by her sister in the castle.

During all of this, another planet is on a collision course with Earth.
